Skier falls 45 feet from ski lift chair

A 17-year-old teen was injured and hospitalized after falling 45 feet from a ski-lift chair at Ski Santa Fe. The teen was videotaped dangling from the ski-lift chair before plummeting to the ground.

Cody Sheppard, the ski patrol director at Ski Santa Fe, told the Santa Fe New Mexican that the teen was trying to throw a snowball at a ski-lift chair in front of him which caused him to leave his seat.

Sheppard said the teen was transported to the hospital by a helicopter where he was released a few days later.  He told the Santa Fe New Mexican that the teen did not need surgery from any of the injuries.

A video was posted by “TriipyHD” of the teen dangling and falling off of the ski-lift chair on YouTube, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The top ten interesting article ideas:
1. Health and Counseling Services have posted little notes around campus with different sayings, "You are loved" and "Perfection: look in the mirror," for Love Week.
2. The Guild of Emerging Metalsmiths will be hosting the fourth annual Valentine Day Jewelry Sale on Feb. 4th from 11 a.m. to 5p.m.
3. Where are the emergency alert buttons around campus? Does Winthrop need more of these alert buttons and signs alerting students where the buttons are located?
4. Where is the Swim Team? We have a pool, but not a swim team.
5. Construction is almost finished between Rutledge and Johnson. How much money was spent? Why all the waterfalls?

Friendship nine documentary

To celebrate the 5oth anniversary of the “Jail, No Bail” movement a documentary will be held in Dina’s Place located at Winthrop University in the DiGiorgio Campus Center on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Eight men from Friendship College became known as the Friendship nine when they organized a sit-in with a civil rights organizer. The nine men sat down at the lunch counter at McCrory’s dime store on Jan. 31, 1961 and refused to leave without being served. The ten men were arrested by the police and charged with trespassing.
All nine men stuck together and refused to pay bail, and they served the sentence of 30 days in prison completing hard labor. This started a nationwide movement of African Americans organizing sit-ins with the intent to get arrested and not pay bail to get the message across.
After the documentary is shown at Dina’s Place, some of the men from Friendship nine will speak and answer questions.
